All American Video Poker comes close to being a standard video poker machine, such as Jacks or Better. However, there are major differences in the All American paytable that makes this game stand out from the rest. It is played with a standard 52-card deck that is shuffled after each hand. Notice there are a few differences compared to a standard Jacks or Better paytable. First, the two-pairs pay only 1 coin for each coin bet. Normally two-pairs pay 2 coins for each coin bet. Another change has been made for Straights, Flushes and Full Houses, all three paying 8 coins for each coin bet. That's a considerable increase for the Straights that traditionally pay 4 coins and Flushes that normally pay 6 coins on a Full-Pay video poker machine. For these advantages the Full House payout has been lowered from 9 to 8. There has been a significant increase for Four-of-a-Kind that pays only 25 on a standard Jacks or Better machine, and Straight Flushes that normally pay 50 on one-coin bets, here pay 200 for each coin-bet. The Royal Flush jackpots stay the same; be aware that there is a boasted jackpot for the 5-coin bet Royal Flush.

Although the All American video poker game rules are the same as Jacks or Better, your strategy should change a little to attempt getting higher-ranking poker hands. It is important however to keep winning hands when you get them in the first deal and only rarely break them up to attempt getting a better hand. Here are a few guidelines for All American Video Poker:
- No winning hand on first deal? No problem, hold the following cards in this order:
- Four cards to a Royal Flush or Straight Flush
- Three cards to a Royal Flush
- Four cards to a Flush
- Low-pair below Jacks
- Four cards to an open-ended straight (for example 7,8,9,10)
- Two suited high cards
- Three cards to a straight flush
- Two unsuited high cards
- Suited 10 and Jack, 10 and Queen or 10 and King
- Any one high card
- If you have none of the above, discard everything and get 5 new cards
- If you have a winning pair plus another high card, always drop the extra high card. Never keep the kicker with your pair as it will reduce your chances of getting a three-of-a-kind. Keeping the extra high card may get you another pair but remember that with All American Video Poker two pairs pay as much as having one Jacks or better pair.
- Always play with 5 coin-bets per hand. If you are looking to beat the machine you want to hit the Royal Flush at its highest jackpot payout. A Royal Flush is hit on average every 40,000 hands. Look for a machine you can afford playing with 5-coin bets every time. That means if you play at quarter video poker machine, by clicking on the Bet Max (5-coin) button you will be wagering $1.25 per each hand.
