You would then need to select two of the top three ranked horses with prolific odds. After doing this you can move on to working out the implied probabilities from the odds provided. The bigger the field, the more inclined I would be to lay one horse and have the other horses running for me. The smaller the fields, with favourable conditions, the more inclined I would be to dutch. Are there any downsides? The mathematical equation behind Dutching is as follows: 1) Firstly, you need to calculate the implied probabilities using both selections’ odds: Implied Probability of Horse A, the 10/1 runner, winning the event = (1 / (10/1 + 1)). 100 = 9.09%. Implied Probability of Horse B, the 5/1 runner, winning the event = (1 / (5/1 + 1)). 100 = 16.67%.

How the Horse Racing Dutching System Works
With dutching, bettors back several horses within the same race instead of only one. As with all horse race betting strategies, it comes with some upsides and downsides. You can lose all of your money if both (or more) horses end up losing. 1 Use our Dutching Calculator above with your tip sheet in hand.
2 Determine your desired profit or the amount you want to stake at the race.
3 Select the first 4 choices on the tip sheet. Using the current odds on the tote board, place the payable amount for each of your selections in the dutching calculator. Note: Don't play odds less than 5/2 or $7.00.
4 If you have a pick that is less than 5/2 or $7.00 play it on top of the other three horses in the exacta. Use the exacta payable on the tote board to fill in the dutching calculator. You will have a six bet Dutch: the three choices with bet odds above 5/2 or $7.00 and the three exacta plays.

IntroductionDutching is the method used to back more than one horse in a race and by mathematically placing the correct stake on each horse so that no matter which horse wins the same amount of money is returned (assuming, of course, that one of the backed horses actually does win). Dutching is a very powerful staking tool and is reputedly named after Al Capone's accountant who used this to great effect when backing horses. We have developed this tool because we couldn't locate one on on the internet which was both simple and flexible to use. In particular, this version allows one to bet with a fixed stake or to learn how much one should stake to return a fixed profit, it at all possible. In addition this calculator allows the user to enter either the traditional fractional odds or the 'American' decimal odds as used on the betting exchanges. InstructionsEnter in the Stake box the amount that you wish to stake in total or enter in the Profit box the profit you are looking to make with a successful Dutch. Then add in each of the boxes place the odds of the horses which you wish to back. Enter the odds in either decimal format, where 2.0 is evens, or in fractional format such as 100/30. |
